Wissahickon Trails invites all birders to join Wissahickon Birdathon Virtual Edition!
Teams explore the Wissahickon watershed to identify as many species as possible during this 24-hour fundraiser. Birders of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join the fun!
Now in its 26th year, Birdathon is a treasured spring ritual of our Wissahickon Trails community. In continuing to hold Birdathon 2020 despite the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 health crisis, we do not intend to downplay the severity of the situation. On the contrary, we hope to support everyone in adapting to life at home by offering the comfort of our time-honored traditions and evolving opportunities to stay connected with birds. One wonder of birds is that they can bring us peace in so many ways and so many places, even in somber and trying times.
In order to allow teams and individuals to practice physical distancing we are expanding the geographic limits outside of the Wissahickon watershed, to include Montgomery, Philadelphia and Bucks Counties. Team members are permitted to bird individually and each team will compile a consolidated checklist from all of their members’ sightings.
Whether you look out the window, explore your yard or neighborhood, or venture to a nearby park, if open, set time aside for the enjoyment of birds and raising critical funding for Wissahickon Trails critical conservation work.

Important Information about the Birdathon Virtual Edition
- Birding must be within the boundaries of Montgomery, Philadelphia and Bucks Counties
- $35 per person registration fee, which includes a t-shirt and a future celebration party
- Register by Wednesday, April 29, 2020 to participate
- Teams must contain a minimum of 2 members; there is no maximum number
- Teams can compete in the Travelling or Big Sit categories.

- Team checklists are due electronically by 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 2. Team captain should email one (1) consolidated team checklist to Kristy Morley at kristy@wissahickontrails.org.
